New initiative on climate change adaptation
Nairobi, 1 March 2016 – icipe and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland have launched a new initiative aimed at supporting the ability of smallholder farming families living around fragile mountain ecosystems in eastern Africa to adapt to the impacts of climate variability and change through research-based interventions has been launched.
Contract signed for food bait production
In November 2015, icipe signed a contract with Kenya Biologics Ltd, towards the construction of a commercial processing plant of a food bait developed by the Centre, as part of its integrated pest management (IPM) of fruit flies in Africa.
Insects for food and feed research attracts new funding
In November 2015, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Germany, approved a EUR 1,200,000 funding for a new project within icipe's fast rising Insects for Food and Feed programme.
icipe research findings on the edible stink bug as food
A recent study by icipe has confirmed the nutritional importance of the edible stink bug, which is widely found and eaten in parts of southern Africa.
icipe Science Days
On 9 and 10 November 2015 icipe held two science days, intended as a chance for diverse stakeholders to engage with the Centre’s world-class scientific breakthroughs and extensive contributions to food security, health improvement and poverty reduction in Africa.
