Environmental Health

In Africa, factors related to population growth, poverty and climate change, are increasing pressure on habitats and biodiversity, leading to ecosystems that are less resilient, more vulnerable to shocks and disturbances, and less able to supply benefits to people and other organisms. icipe’s overall goal is to improve environmental health for enhanced food security, health and incomes, especially for communities living in marginalised and fragile regions.

icipe’s environmental health theme seeks to:

  1. broaden the knowledge base on arthropods, their diversity and role in ecosystems
  2. contribute to the conservation and sustainable utilisation of biodiversity, and
  3. define strategies for to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
