On 9 and 10 November 2015 icipe held two science days, intended as a chance for diverse stakeholders to engage with the Centre’s world-class scientific breakthroughs and extensive contributions to food security, health improvement and poverty reduction in Africa.
Invasive weed could increase malaria incidents in East Africa
29.09.2015: A highly aggressive invasive weed known scientifically as Parthenium hysterophorus, and within the region as famine weed, could increase malaria incidents in East Africa.
Euro 15M programme to disseminate icipe technologies
26.08.2015: icipe and partners, have launched a Euro 15 million programme, to support the adoption of the Centre’s technologies and strategies for improved cereal, horticulture and livestock productivity by an estimated 350,000 additional farmers and pastoralists in Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania.
icipe develops new remote sensing-based methodology
20.08.2015: icipe and collaborators have developed a new remote sensing-based methodology to map flowering plants in Africa. Using this methodology, which uniquely combines two hyperspectral mapping formulas, the researchers have produced the world’s first ever floral map.
icipe climate-smart push-pull benefitting farmers in East Africa
17 July 2015: A climate-smart version of the icipe push-pull technology is enabling farmers living in some of the East African regions most severely affected by climate change to stabilise their cereal–livestock mixed production systems.
