This issue is particularly special to me, as it is the last one produced under my leadership of icipe. It has been a great honour, pleasure and privilege to lead this remarkable institution over the past decade, and to become a part of the rhythm of harmony and evolution set by my predecessors. 
 
I am aware that my vision has succeeded because of the support of numerous individuals and institutions. 
 
I thank the icipe Governing Council, starting with the Members involved in my recruitment, and all the others that have lent their service to icipe over the past 10 years. I gratefully acknowledge these distinguished and eminent personalities for their trust in me, commitment to icipe, wise counsel, love for science and development, and belief in Africa.
 
My heartfelt gratitude goes to all icipe local, national, regional and global partners, including the funders, collaborators, communities and members of the media, who have continued to believe in the Centre, and to share our values, mission and vision. This has made our goal of transforming livelihoods possible.  
 
I acknowledge the many institutions across the world that have welcomed and recognised icipe and myself personally in a multitude of ways. This has helped to raise the Centre’s regional and global eminence, status as a worthwhile investment and partner, and to reinforce the indispensable role of insects and insect science.
 
To all icipe staff and scholars, I thank you all for your collegiality, your dedicated service to the Centre and our stakeholders, as well as the quest for, and devotion to excellence. 
 
I wish you all continued success and prosperity, and I hold dear the vision that icipe will continue to thrive as a model of institutional and scientific distinction.
