icipe @ the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit 2024

The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) participated in a significant manner, in the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit, held in Nairobi, Kenya from 7-9 May 2024. The summit deliberated on Africa’s recent widespread decades-long decline in soil quality of farmland - a phenomenon that continues today and negatively impacts the agricultural production capacity and food security in the continent.

The European Commission (DG INTPA) and IFAD convened a session titled: ‘Emerging Opportunities with Organic Bio-Fertilizers for Soil Health in Africa.'  Keynote speaker: Prof. Bernhard Freyer (third left), BOKU University; Panellists: Ms Carla Montesi (second right), Director, INTPA, European Commission; icipe Director General, Dr Abdou Tenkouano (third right); Dr David Amudavi (extreme right), Biovision Africa Trust. Facilitator: Dr Nelida Ale (IFAD).

Together with The Rockefeller Foundation and the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), we organized a side event titled: Agroecological and Regenerative Innovations for Soil Health and Sustainable Production.

Our exhbition booth was a wonderful site of interaction, learning and enthusiasm.
