We are pleased to announce that Dr Abdou Tenkouano assumed office as the new Director General of the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe), on 1 January 2024.  Dr Tenkouano took over from Dr Segenet Kelemu, who held the Centre’s helm from November 2013 – 31 December 2023. Since his arrival, Dr Tenkouano has embarked on an induction programme encompassing icipe and the Centre’s stakeholders.

A national of Burkina Faso, Dr Tenkouano has a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in agricultural research, supported by immense scientific knowledge production, technology development and dissemination. He has a very strong track record in management and leadership, resource mobilisation, networking, collaboration, and capacity building. As a result, he has an enviable reputation in Africa’s national, regional and continental research for development sectors. “It is with great pleasure and humility that I join the icipe family. I consider icipe to be ahead in the development of transformative socio-economic inclusive innovations for Africa. I firmly believe in inclusive innovations even as I also recognise the complexities that must be addressed by research and development institutions to achieve this goal.  I look forward therefore to joining the rhythm for its  continuation and evolution set by my predecessors.”- Dr Tenkouano

Please join us in welcoming Dr Tenkouano into the icipe family, and let us all accord him our full support and cooperation.

Prof. Kym Anderson
Chair, icipe Governing Council
