Komi K.M. Fiaboe

Dr Komi K.M. Fiaboe is an Agricultural Entomologist/Acarologist and Integrated Pest Management (IPM )Specialist within the Plant Health Theme.

His research areas include Integrated Pest Management for insects and mites, soil health and organic farming, and the use of insects for feed. He coordinates different projects including African Indigenous Vegetable IPM project, Insect for Feed for Poultry and Fish production in Kenya and Uganda (INSFEED) project, leafminer flies IPM project and the Long Term Comparison of Organic and Conventional Farming Systems project.

Dr Fiaboe joined icipe as a Senior Scientist in 2011. Prior to this, he was a Research Associate at the Centre for Biological Control (CBC) of the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), in Florida, USA from 2010 to 2011, working on the invasive Red Palm Weevil spread and management in the Caribbean Islands.

Dr Fiaboe has also worked as a Banana Entomologist at IITA-Uganda (2006 – 2009), studying the vectors, the spread and the epidemiology of banana bacterial wilt disease in Uganda and in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

A former ARPPIS student (2002 – 2006), Dr Fiaboe holds a PhD in Agricultural Entomology from Kenyatta University, Kenya, conducted in partnership with icipe, the University of Sao Paulo and University of Pernambuco, Brazil. He also holds an MSc and a BSc in Agricultural Sciences, Crop Production from the University of Lome in Togo.
