Dr Komivi Senyo Akutse

Dr. Komivi Senyo Akutse is a Senior Scientist in icipe’s Plant Health Theme and is based at Duduville.

He holds a PhD in Agricultural Entomology (Environmental Sciences) from North-West University in South Africa, Mphil. in Entomology, Bsc in Agricultural Sciences and is an IPM Specialist. He joined icipe in 2017 as a Biopesticide Development Scientist in the Arthropod Pathology Unit where he tremendously contributed to the development and registration several biopesticides against major agricultural and livestock pests in Africa.

Before joining icipe, Dr Akutse was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Applied Ecology, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, China, where he worked on pathogens and endophytes associated with diamondback moth and its host plants under the umbrella of ecological-based pest management strategies in different agroecosystems. Prior to this, between 2013 and 2015, he worked as a Postdoctoral Consultant at icipe, where he carried out research on IPM technology development and application, farming system comparisons, and insects for food and feed.

He is an expert in biological control, with strong skills in pathogen-insect-plant interactions. He obtained his PhD in Agricultural Entomology at North-West University, South Africa, and has authored and co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, several book chapters, policy documents, and more than 50 conference contributions in form of proceedings and oral presentations. He has mentored several PhD, MSc, BSc and internship students.
