Training Health Researchers into Vocational Excellence in East Africa (THRiVE)

icipe is one of nine collaborating partners in THRiVE, which has its hub at Makerere University in Uganda (thrive.or.ug), and is funded under the African Institutions Initiative of the Wellcome Trust.  These institutions founded THRiVE with the aim of building capacity in East Africa for health sciences research.

Among the objectives of THRiVE are to, 1. Develop and sustain a Consortium functioning as a strong network, 2. Empower institutions to build a critical mass of well-trained research scientists, 3. augment the development of a conducive institutional environment for high quality research and to provide support systems for improved governance and management of research activities.  icipe hosted one postdoc, provided support to young scholars through the pump-priming grants scheme, and mini-sabbaticals and also initiated an international vector biology course that was held at the Thomas Odhiambo Campus, Mbita Point.
