Novel control strategies for cattle ticks

Ticks are vectors of important livestock and several human diseases. Global losses to livestock due to tick and tick-borne diseases (TBDs) are estimated at US$ 13.9-18.7 billion annually, and over 800 million cattle worldwide are constantly exposed. The use of chemical acaricides still remains the main approach to management of TBDs. Ticks have developed resistance to most of the major products, in addition to concern over the effects on the environment. icipe and Real IPM are developing a fungus-based acaricide as alternative to chemical acaricides and as tool for resistance management.
