Demonstration and commercialisation of biorational pheromone based male and female attract and kill system for the successful control of fruit flies in Asia and Africa.

This project seeks to test attract and kill bait station devices for the use in tropical fruit orchards and vegetable groves in East Africa and South East Asia. This system can control fruit flies by reducing male and female populations substantially. icipe is testing the devices for deployment on small scale to large fields to provide sustainable control at critical times just prior to fruit harvest. The male and female attractant and low dose toxicant-based bait stations can ensure rapid and sustainable control of fruit flies. The system is entirely novel and innovative due to its target application, specific attraction and defence for the entire fruiting season.
