Alternative livelihoods for food and income security in four Indian Ocean island nations (Mauritius, Seychelles, Comoros and Madagascar) and in Zanzibar (United Republic of Tanzania)
The goal is to contribute to increased food and income security of smallholder farmers in five island nations off the eastern and south-eastern coast of Africa through introduction of improved beekeeping technologies and pollination services for alternative source of livelihood, improved crop yields and biodiversity conservation among communities targeted by The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) country programmes. The underlying principle is to assist rural and largely poor communities to improve their livelihood and the welfare of the natural environment by assisting them to increase the productivity and resilience of their farming systems and natural resources through the uptake of sustainable beekeeping techniques and integrative pollination services for improving crop production.
