Agnes Waringa Kiriga
Research project: Identification of plant parasitic nematodes affecting pineapple in Kenya and the effect of selected bio control agents on Meloidogyne spp.
Agnes is a DRIP MSc Scholar supervised by Dr Solveig Haukeland (icipe) and Dr. George Kariuki (Kenyatta University (KU), Kenya). Her research interest includes plant pathology and nematology. Her MSc research project is on the identification of plant parasitic nematodes affecting pineapple in Kenya, and the effect of selected bio control agents on Meloidogyne spp. of nematodes. The project includes surveying pineapple commercial fields to establish the diversity of plant parasitic nematodes and evaluating the potential of selected bio control agents and antagonists on Meloidogyne spp. The goal is to help reduce the use of toxic chemicals that are linked with health and environmental problems. She is registered for a MSc at KU and is supported by a scholarship from Kenya Biologics.
Agnes holds a BSc in Agriculture from Egerton University, Kenya.
