Research project: Improvement of Arabica coffee quality and productivity in East Africa through the development of a risk analysis tool for major insect pests

Abdelmutalab is an ARPPIS PhD Scholar supervised by Dr Régis Babin (icipe and Cirad, France), and is supported by a scholarship from DAAD. His research interests include the environmental sciences and insect ecology. His research project is on improving Arabica coffee quality and productivity in East Africa through the development of a risk analysis tool for major insect pests. His work seeks to identify how agro-ecological factors impact on the populations of major coffee pests and how climate change is likely to affect the future distribution of these pests in East Africa.

Abdelmutalab completed his undergraduate studies in Agricultural Sciences with a specialization in Crop Protection at University of Gezira, Sudan, and obtained a MSc in Research Methods from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya.
