Agricultural productivity and climate change: capturing changes in the occurrence of stemborers in maize
The objective of this study is to utilize the currently available in situ data on pest and disease occurrences and newly available satellite time-series data to understand climate change effects on agricultural productivity.
Specifically, a stem-borer larvae density map was produced using 5m Rapid-Eye satellite data and sophisticated modelling. The map below shows the stem-borer larvae density map for a study site in Machakos county, Kenya. Red indicates high probability of occurence while yellow shows moderate probabilities for stem-borers to occur.
