The Arthropod Pathology Unit aims at developing technologies that promote utilisation of arthropod pathogens (fungi, bacteria, nematodes, viruses) and products of biotechnology to achieve sustainable agricultural production, improvement in livestock and human health, conservation of natural resources and preservation of the environment.
To achieve these objectives, the Unit carries out activities in bioprospecting for arthropod pathogens, their conservation in the icipe Germplasm Centre, laboratory screening and field evaluation against target arthropod pests. Both the inundative and autodissemination approaches for control of arthropod pests and disease vectors are being evaluated. The Unit's research activities cut across all of icipe's programmes.
