1. icipe/BioInnovate Africa is a regional innovation-driven bioeconomy initiative established in 2010 with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). It is implemented by the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe), and operates in Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
2. BioInnovate Africa, through icipe, seeks to engage an individual consultant to support the implementation of BioInnovate Africa’s communications strategy for key activities in 2026 to enhance its visibility and communication efforts. 3. BioInnovate Africa now invites interested qualified individuals who are able to demonstrate technical capability to successfully deliver the above-mentioned assignment.
4. Interested and qualified applicants MUST have/provide the following (Technical Proposals):
a. A cover letter expressing interest in this assignment and signed by the applicant, including contact details (e-mail and telephone).
b. Copy of personal identification document (ID/Passport) and valid Tax Compliance Certificate.
c. Possess a relevant bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or other related fields.
d. A comprehensive CV confirming the following:
i. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in communications, preferably in the development sector, and/or an international science-based institution.
ii. Skilled in using a variety of audio and electronic communications equipment, e.g. camera, microphone, etc.
iii. Excellent documentation and organisational skills.
iv. Skilled in using design and editing software, proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects) is an added advantage.
v. Ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups.
e. Provide at least three (3) references from reputable organisations where the applicant has provided services of similar nature as sought by icipe. They will be contacted.
f. Financial proposal: Provide a competitive fees quote in (KES) to perform the assignment, with a clear breakdown of each cost and any chargeable taxes.
5. Completed proposals (both Technical & Financial) must be submitted electronically through e-mail at icipetenders@icipe.org in two separate attachments labelled appropriately. The e-mail subject should be clearly marked: ‘Invitation for Bids – Individual Communications consultant to support the implementation of BioInnovate Africa’s communications strategy at icipe’. The submission should reach icipe on or before 13th July 2026 at 11:00 hours East Africa Time. Late submissions will be rejected.
6. General Information and Notice:
a. Any information provided by the bidding party will form the basis of any contract that may be entered into between icipe and the bidder.
b. icipe shall not be liable for or be required to pay any costs, expenses or losses that may be incurred by the bidding party in the preparation of their Bid.
c. icipe reserves the right to accept or reject any Bid without assigning any reasons thereof.
