Marketing Strategy Development and Backstopping of the Beekeeping Union for the Improvement of Livelihoods of Tolay Community, Ethiopia

Beekeeping is one of the agricultural sectors that the Tolay, Ethiopia agriculture office has identified and is supporting as it is a pathway to environmental protection, youth job creation opportunity, potential for pollination services and plays a role in livelihood improvement of the rural and urban communities through sustainable income generation. This project’s goal therefore is to develop honey marketing strategies, enhance quality honey production and productivity through bee health management tools to conserve bee biodiversity, for sustainable income and food security in Tolay. The strategy is to conduct preliminary studies and organise the beekeepers to improve their livelihoods through adoption of modern beekeeping technologies and organic certification of honey and hive-based products. It also endeavours to find practical solutions to check bee pests and diseases, and creating healthy environments for bees.
