Nurturing a dream: icipe’s commitment to Fiona Nelima Mumoki’s rising scientific career

Nairobi, Kenya, 30 March 2015: In a continent where scientific dreams die young, especially for women scientists, Fiona Nelima Mumoki has managed to keep hers alive, nurtured for the past five years at icipe. Now about to commence PhD studies at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, Fiona describes her journey so far, her hopes for the future, and how an AWARD Fellowship will enable her to continue being mentored by icipe.

Major international prize to push-pull lead scientist, icipe’s Prof Zeyaur Khan

17 March, 2015: icipe researcher Prof Zeyaur Khan has won the prestigious Louis Malassis Prize for Outstanding Career in Agricultural Development, awarded on Monday March 16, 2015 during a special session of the 3rd Global Science Conference on Climate-Smart Agriculture in Montpellier, France by the Agropolis Foundation.

Baldwyin Torto, Head of Behavioural and Chemical Ecology Unit, appointed a Fellow of AAS

In April 2014, Prof. Baldwyn Torto was inducted as a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS). He was also selected to serve as a member of AAS’s Commission on Sciences Education, one of four established to build capacity and set the agenda for science in Africa. He has also been invited by AAS to serve on the jury for the award of the Africa Union Prizes.

Muliru Farmers Conservation Group wins NETFUND Green Innovations Award

a community group based adjacent to Kakamega forest, which is supported by icipe and partners in the mission of improving its members’ llivelihoods while conserving the forest, won two prestigious awards and a training package from the Government of Kenya, funded by the Swedish Government: the overall NETFUND Green Innovations Award, 2014 and the water thematic area NETFUND Green Innovations Award, 2014.
