Development and implementation of a sustainable IPM and surveillance programme for the invasive tomato leafminer, Tuta absoluta, in North and sub Saharan Africa
The project is a joint collaborative initiative between icipe, international and national partners, to develop, test and adapt sustainable integrated pest management (IPM) options for Tuta absoluta in order to increase tomato production and improve the income and nutrition of small and medium scale tomato growers in the target countries of Tunisia, Sudan, Kenya, Republic of South Sudan and Uganda. The project is developing a holistic eco-friendly IPM package for management of this pest through mass trapping using a novel attract and kill product, biopesticides based on entomopathogenic fungi and introduction of co-evolved natural enemies from the pest aboriginal home of Peru.
