Prof Yukawa Junichi, a member of the icipe governing council member, received on April 2009 a prize from the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies (AJASS) for his contribution to Agricultural Sciences, from taxonomic and ecological aspects in applied entomology.
Prof Yukawa was recommended for the honour by Prof. Yasuhisa Kunimi, the former president of the Japanese Society of Applied Entomology and Zoology, and the council members of the society, as an appreciation of his work on gall midges (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), which include both gall-inducing pest species of beneficial plants and predacious species that attack pest insects such as aphids and mites.
The award is supported by AJASS and Yomiuri News Paper (Co. Ltd.), one of Japan’s leading newspaper publishing companies.
