Samuel Kagumba Muchemi
Research project: Host acceptability, suitability, interaction and establishment of Liriomyza leafminer endoparasitoids Halticoptera arduine (Walker) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) and Chrysochar
Samuel is a DRIP PhD Scholar supervised by Dr Fiaboe Komi from icipe and Prof. Claus Zebitz from the University of Hohenheim, Germany. Samuel is currently researching two introduced endoparasitoids of Liriomyza leafminer: Halticoptera arduine (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) and Chrysocharis flacilla (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae). His work aims to find out if exotic endoparasitoids can be accepted by local leafminers as hosts, and if local endoparasitoids are affected by the introduction of exotic species. He is registered for a PhD at the University of Hohenheim, Germany, and is supported by a scholarship from BMZ, GIZ.
Samuel obtained a BEd in Zoology and Botany and a MSc in Agricultural Entomology from Kenyatta University, Kenya. He is a member of the COLEACP, AAK and the Professional Training Association of Kenya, and serves as a phytosanitary expert.
