Mr Gatigwa Kimana
Mr Kimana is the Director of Finance and Administration at icipe. He has close to 40 years of experience in audit, finance and general management, gained working in the corporate sector and in not-for-profit multinational and international organisations.
His specific strengths are in setting up and managing sound financial, and administrative systems, and he also has good capacity for business and financial analysis. Mr Kimana is also well versed in human resources administrative issues, having had oversight and consulted in this area in various firms.
Having started his career at the premier professional accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand in 1977, Mr Kimana has since held various senior positions in finance and general management, including at Rhone Poulenc, a major French pharmaceutical and chemical multinational group.
Since 1996, Mr Kimana has undertaken various assignments in the not-for--profit sector, in the areas of management of accounting, administration, taxation and auditing and company secretarial work. He was Director of Finance at Actionaid Kenya International from 1996 to 2002. From 2002, he has undertaken a variety of consultancy assignments and acting appointments, for instance as the interim Director of Finance and Administration at icipe and as interim Director of Corporate Services, at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
Mr Kimana earned an MBA specialising in Finance in 1985 from the University of Bradford, UK. He also holds the following professional qualifications: Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA, 1980); Certified Public Accountant, Kenya (CPA-K, 1984) and Certified Public Secretary (CPS, 1991).
