Dr Boniface Mutua Ngoka

Dr Boniface Ngoka is an Agricultural Entomologist in Commercial Insects Programme. He holds an MSc in Agricultural Entomology from Kenyatta University and a PhD in Agricultural Entomology from Kenyatta University.

Dr Ngoka conducts pertinent research on wild silkmoths, Eri silkworms and Bombyx mori on silkworm hybridization, silk grainage, raw silk and fabric processing. He documents results, including planning and executing silk research, data collection and analysis as well as student supervision and conducting intensive training for technical staff on silk worm rearing technologies and quality testing of silk fibre and fabric.

Dr Ngoka supports the Commercial Insects Programme (CIP) to implement various sericulture and apiculture projects in over 16 African countries, including scaling-up sericulture, apiculture and other livelihood options through enhanced productivity, through establishing technologies and equipping silk and honey marketplaces for commercializing silk and hive-based products and developing improved practices and knowledge of diversified adaptive livelihood options based on innovative industrial designs and methodologies. He is involved in resource mobilization and project proposal writing, implementing project activities including designing of work plans, training programmes; project scheduling and budgeting; monitoring and evaluation. He provides technical assistance, advice and oversight to the projects and activities in participating project countries and promoting knowledge sharing between partners and projects; and provides strategic direction to CIP projects at different phases of the project management cycle.
