Dr Michael Lattorff
Before joining icipe in 2017, Dr Michael Lattorff held the positions of Assistant Professor in Molecular Ecology and Professor of Animal Physiology at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany.
For more than 20 years, he has been researching the genetics, physiology, ecology and evolution of bees, with a special interest in host-pathogen-interactions. He uses genomics, transcriptomics and other molecular methods to infer behavioural and physiological adaptations of bee health and diseases. He is also interested in determining the effects of bee products on bee health due to their antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. His overall objective is to ensure pollination services and increased livelihoods among rural communities through research on bee health.
Dr. Lattorff has trained more than 20 young scientists (BSc, MSc and PhD), is regularly invited to review manuscripts and grant proposals, and serves on several editorial boards of scientific journals as Associate Editor.
