Dr Joseph Gichuhi

Dr. Joseph Gichuhi is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the SymbioVector Project under the Human Health Theme.   

Joseph holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from the North-West University, South Africa.

Prior to joining icipe, Joseph worked as a lecturer and research assistant at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya. He has also worked as a Visiting Researcher at the Institute of Plant Science and Resources (IPSR) of the Okayama University, Japan, following an award from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

Joseph is a member of the African Association of Insect Scientists, the Entomological Society of Kenya and ANTI-VeC. Over the years, he has successfully undertaken research on microbial symbionts of arthropods geared toward the control of invasive pest-insect species.

He has been an awardee of the DRIP-PhD scholarship at icipe.

His research focus is on harnessing the potential of the beneficial, harmful and harmless microbial partners of insects for the environment- and biodiversity-conscious management of disease vectors and pests.
