James Peter Egonyu

Dr James Peter Egonyu 

Dr. James Peter Egonyu is a Research Scientist in the Insects for Food, Feed and other Uses Programme at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe), Nairobi Kenya. James’ research focus is on unravelling the potential of edible insects as a sustainable source of food.  Previously, James served as Lecturer at Makerere University, Uganda; Crop Entomologist at the National Coffee Research Institute, Uganda; and Agricultural Inspector at the Uganda government civil service.

James holds a first-class BSc (Agriculture) and MSc (Crop Science) from Makerere University, and PhD (Agricultural Entomology) from University of Nairobi. He was a doctoral and postdoctoral Research Fellow at icipe between 2009 and 2016, focusing on insect chemical ecology.

James is a member of the Uganda National Young Academy–an affiliate of Uganda National Academy of Sciences and the Global Young Academy; African Association of Insect Scientists; and the Entomological Association of Uganda. He is Associate Editor of the International Journal of Tropical Insect Science and a Lead Guest Editor for the journal’s Special Issue: Advances in Insects as Food and Feed (https://www.springer.com/journal/42690/updates/17802396). He reviews for several scientific journals and serves as examiner of graduate theses.
