Dr Frank Chidawanyika

Dr. Chidawanyika is a Scientist in the Push-pull Program under the Plant Health Theme. His research interests are in agroecology, insect- physiology, -herbivory and -olfactory-guided behaviour, where he investigates both theoretical and applied questions on climate stress and insect pest management. Currently, his primary focus is on development of pathways for sustainable intensification of push-pull farming whilst combating old and emerging invasive pests where he publishes widely in these themes. He has been a recipient of several awards, including the DAAD-ARPPIS scholarship and Carnergie Corporation of New York Fellowship, and is a rated scientist by the South African National Research Foundation (NRF). He also currently serves as Review Editor for Frontiers in Insect Science journal in addition to several other academic citizenship commitments. Following undergraduate training at University of Zimbabwe and MSc. at Stellenbosch University, South Africa (ZA), Dr. Chidawanyika attained his PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand ZA before joining the Agricultural Research Council ZA, as an Environmental Entomologist. Thereafter, he joined the University of the Free State ZA as a Senior Lecturer in Insect Physiological Ecology and mentored several postdoc and postgraduate students in addition to undergraduate teaching.
